Pride Month isn’t just for the LGBTQ+ community.

While the annual celebration recognizes the contributions and advancements of queer folks throughout history, it also serves as a reminder that the fight for equality is very much ongoing.

The former tennis player is known for her professional achievements on the court but has hardly spoken of her partner. “But there is an original meaning to that word, and there [are] some people who embody that very powerfully.”

Daniel Radcliffe has similarly shown what it means to be an ally to the gay community—though he’s been hesitant to refer to himself as such.

“Anytime you hear somebody self-refer to themself as an ally, I'm always like, ‘I'm suspicious of you,’” he explained during a Trevor Project roundtable with trans and nonbinary youth in March 2023.

She is currently in support of Emma Radacanu, who she thinks can reach on top after seeing her performance at the US Open.

Virginia Wade hasn’t disclosed if she has a partner or a wife.

The grand slam winner has been linked with actor Mary Lou Wallace as they were seen together on several occasions, but she has not confirmed whether the two of them are in a relationship or just friends.

Mary Lou Wallace is known for her roles in TV shows Law and Order and Not Fade Away.

"They are all different, and I have to get to know them and where they are. And my job as a father is to facilitate their lives and to support them and be behind them in whatever they want to do.”

In April, Wade’s then 11-year-old son Zion posted pictures of himself at Miami Pride, with his siblings and stepmother, actress Gabrielle Union.

Wade, who retired from the NBA in April, was with the Miami Heat in Canada for a game against the Toronto Raptors at the time, but cheered them on from afar.

“We support each other with Pride!” Wade wrote in an Instagram Story over a photo of Zion and Union at the parade.

Wade was met with an outpouring of support for his Instagram Story.

But the family also faced some backlash, which Wade said he was unprepared for.

“I’m very uneasy about accolades that come from supporting my kids or the negativity that comes from it," Wade said.

, a clinical psychologist and professor at the Yale School of Public Health, who has studied the mental health impacts on gay and bisexual men who moved from a country with high LGTBQ stigma to one more accepting of them, told ABC News last year.

"Families with higher income have more ability to move, but when families do move, they likely relinquish the social capital, and possibly even some of the economic capital, that they've accumulated in their hometowns."

According to Pachankis, moving away from states with discriminatory laws and policies can be stressful in the short term "because of the disruptions and uncertainties associated with moving," however, in the long term, it can be beneficial.

"Our research conducted across 44 countries shows that for gay men who move from homophobic countries to more supportive countries, it takes at least five years before the negative mental health impact of moving from a homophobic country dissipates," Pachankis said.
