It felt to me like there was something beneath the surface, right?
Think back to the early seasons, and how Eddie Diaz's introduction to the 118 came from Buck's point-of-view with the song 'Whatta Man' playing as a shirtless Eddie appeared in slow-motion. go watch something else," he laughed.
I feel very proud of the work and just to be a part of it.”

9-1-1 Stars Who Have Been Open About Their Sexuality In Real Life
"9-1-1" has long been lauded for it's representation of the LGBTQIA+ community, and some stars of the spinoff "9-1-1: Lone Star" have even been inspired to come out publicly because of it.
This is a show about love and inclusion. Tim Minear is now back in the driver's seat as the showrunner after its move to ABC, and it's clear that the move has infused the show with new energy and passion. I can not recall a series in recent modern memory that has told a storyline of this nature for a male character; Buffy the Vampire Slayer did it for Willow when she attended college and met Tara, and Grey's Anatomy and Glee have both told similar stories for Callie, and Brittany and Santana respectively.
There are, however, narrative choices made that are a disservice to viewers, in particular the decision to have Tommy and Buck continue their casual conversation after the kiss.
Stark also made it clear that he had no time for the haters who criticized the show simply because his character was bisexual. I think that’s fantastic,'” Stark said. It’s featured queer relationships from the very beginning including a beautiful Black lesbian marriage played out by two of the best actresses I’ve ever watched.”
He continued, “If one other character finding a new facet to his sexuality and realising his bisexuality is your deal breaker – I fear you’ve missed the ntire point of the show.
I don’t know in what capacity we could ever be involved in that but I wish them nothing but total success.”

However, he has spoken extensively about how important it was for him to play a bisexual character on "9-1-1." After the 2024 episode that saw Buck kiss his friend Tommy Kinard, he gushed on "The Zach Sang Show," "I think it's really good representation." That, he explained, came from the fact that Buck's bisexuality was merely one detail about him. Everyone who had been waiting for Buck to finally embrace his sexuality, it’s time to celebrate!
That seemed to change in 9-1-1 Season 7, which introduced the character’s first queer storyline. Instead of letting viewers stew in curiosity for days, Stark has solved this question as well — he thinks his character is bisexual.
“That’s the way I have it in my head. He also called out the critics who were upset about the queer representation, since the show had always featured LGBTQIA+ characters.
“If you are one of the smaller group of people commenting on my posts about how this has ruined the show.
